Humana, Texas A&M University Host Inaugural Health Care Analytics Case Competition for MS/MBA Students


AUSTIN, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Health and well-being company Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) and Mays Business
School at Texas A&M University are launching the first health care
analytics case competition at the university’s campus to showcase
students’ analytical abilities to solve a real-world business problem.
The case competition is open to all accredited colleges in the United

Students enrolled full-time in accredited Master of Science, Master of
Arts, Master of Information Systems, Master of Public Health or Master
of Business Administration programs at an educational institution based
in the United States are eligible to enter. Students are invited to join
in groups of two to three students—from the same school—to tackle a
real-world case that will be announced in October.

The deadline for participants to submit their completed analyses will be
Oct. 27 by 11:59 p.m. CT. Five finalists will then present their
analyses to an executive panel at Texas A&M’s Mays Business School on
Nov. 9, with the winner being selected immediately afterward.

to host the Humana Data Analytics Case Competition, which will attract
the brightest graduate students in the country to come together and

The prizes for the winning teams will be $6,000 for first place, $3,000
for second place and $1,500 for third place. The teams will be judged
based on the following criteria:

  • Ability to establish key performance indicators aligned to business
  • Quantitative analysis identifying key business insights
  • Ability to provide unique insights for business improvements
  • Professionalism and visualization skills

The case problem the students will receive is designed to be ambiguous,
similar to a real-world business problem. Applicants are encouraged to
pick from an array of tools, including R. Python, SAS, SPSS, Matlab and
Excel, to solve the problem.

Key dates for participants include:

  • Oct. 2: prospective participants can attend the virtual opening
    kickoff at 5 p.m. EDT
  • Oct. 6: deadline for participants to form a team of two to three people
  • Oct. 20: participants attend a pre-submission workshop
  • Oct. 27: deadline for participants to submit their completed technical
  • Nov. 9: finalists present to executive panel at Mays Business School’s
    CityCentre Houston location; the winner is selected
