Nobel laureate Toni Morrison honored with literary award
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (AP) — Nobel writing laureate Toni Morrison is gathering another prestigious prize.
The Pulitzer Prize-winning author is planned to be given the American Academy of Arts and Sciences’ Emerson-Thoreau Medal.
The prize was set up in 1958 and is granted to people to perceive a lifetime of artistic accomplishments.
Past beneficiaries incorporate Robert Frost, T.S. Eliot, Katherine Anne Porter, Saul Bellow, Norman Mailer and Philip Roth.
Morrison is set to get her decoration Thursday evening at the Academy’s base camp in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Foundation President Jonathan Fanton says Morrison was chosen “for her greatness in the humanities.” Her assignment calls her “a staggering figure in American and world writing.”
